Athalye Tech

A S Athalye is closely associated with the Plastics Industry in India, since his return from the U.S.A. in 1960 after studying Plastics Engineering and working with Dow Chemicals Co. at Midland, Michigan, U.S.A in their Quality control & Technical Service Labs. related to Polystyrene and ABS. He was deputed by Dows as a member of their Commissioning team for the ANS Plant at Kawasaki in Japan in the year 1959. He returned to join their Associate, Polychem Ltd, Manufacturers of PS, HIPS and ABS Plastics. He headed the Technical Service Dept. and Applications and Development Group of Polychem Ltd. and Hoechst Dyes and Chemicals Ltd in the period 1960-65, 1966-1972 respectively for Polystyrene (STYRON) and HDPE (HOSTALEN). This gave him an opportunity to have hands-down experience in conversion Products Development and Quality Control and also a close contact with the Plastics Conversion and User Industry. He worked between 1972 and 1982 as a Project Manager with the Thackersey Group for Diversification covering in-house production of a variety of products such as HDPE Woven Sacks, Leno Sacks for Exports, Fibrilated Tapes for Twines and Ropes, Blow Moulding Machines, Inj.-Moulded Technical Components mainly for the Textile Mills, Inorganic Pigments, Pigment Emulsions and Binders for Textile Printing and Reactive Dyes. He also established CSIR recognized R&D Centre, where all of the above Products were developed and commercialized. During this period, he was a Director on the Board of various Thackersey Group Companies as well as those in the Dilip Piramal Group including Blow Plast Ltd. He was also a Chairman of two Companies in the Thackersey Group during this period. In the year 1981, he started his own independent activity of Projects Consultancy in the field of Plastics and Packaging and has serviced 90 Clients in the last 30 Years, both at Home and Overseas.
